FAQs at Cummings Chiropractic Family Wellness

Common Questions Answered

Like other chiropractors, we hear many questions from new and current chiropractic patients.
Here are some of the most common questions and answers…

How much does it cost?

Are Family Plans available?

Yes, substantial savings can be had through a family wellness plan. Please inquire with the doctor directly.

What are your hours?

View Cummings Chiropractic Family Wellness office hours. If our office hours do not fit into your schedule, our chiropractor makes house calls.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. Wherever possible we will direct bill your insurance (ex. Blue Cross, Great West Life) so you don’t have to worry about taking a receipt and submitting later. We do it all for you! Some insurance companies do not allow direct billing but we will always offer you a receipt so you can claim the expense on your plan or taxes. *Please note: every insurance plan is different and we advise that you check the chiropractic coverage in your specific plan before coming to your first appointment.

Do you make house-calls?

Yes. Dr. Grant Cummings office does provide mobile services to northwest and southwest Calgary and Cochrane. This is for wellness, maintenance patients only. Spaces in this practice are very limited and restrictions apply. Inquire directly with Dr. Grant or call 403.861.9574.

Are you open weekends?

Yes. Dr. Grant Cummings office is open Saturday mornings.

Once I start seeing a chiropractor will I have to keep going forever?

No. Many people think once you see a chiropractor you have to keep going. That is not true. Most patients come to us with the goal of alleviating some specific symptom (pain, numbness or tingling) and once that symptom is gone some patients decide to stop care until they have another injury or problem. These are called acute care patients. However, after experiencing how much better you can feel and the numerous health benefits of chiropractic you may choose to continue with a wellness, preventative health approach. These are called wellness patients who want to achieve maximal health and aim to prevent injuries and illness. How much you use our office is up to you.

Do you work with Medical Doctors and other health professionals?

Yes. However, working with and needing a referral are not to be confused. You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor in Alberta. Once you are a patient in our office we may ask your permission to speak with another health care provider (medical doctor, physio, massage therapist, acupuncturist etc.) about your care. It is important to have everyone involved in your healthcare working together to do what is best for you.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. You can book your first visit directly with Dr. Grant Cummings and start your path towards healing without a referral. That being said many family doctors in Calgary send their patients specifically to Dr. Grant Cummings for their chiropractic needs. This speaks highly to the level of trust many family doctors have in Dr. Grant.

Will you prescribe exercises/stretches?

Absolutely! We can get you on the path to wellness but it is very important to give you the tools needed to stay on that path.

Will I get adjusted on my first visit?

Yes, in most circumstances. However, the doctor may decide that it is in the best interests of your health to gather more information (x-rays, MRI, ultrasound etc) before initiating treatment. In these rare cases Dr. Grant Cummings will give you the needed documentation to have the tests performed.

Will I have x-rays?

Possibly. Many cases do not require the use of imaging. However, it must be remembered that you are in a doctor’s office and accurate and timely diagnosis is critical for your well-being. If the doctor has cause for concern you will be sent for more tests. There have been numerous cases where tests ordered and diagnoses made by Dr. Grant have saved patients lives. You are in good hands and your best interests will always be first and foremost.

Will I get a prescription?

No. Chiropractors as a profession have declined becoming a profession that prescribes medication. Chiropractors help heal the body from within. Chiropractors believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We aim to help you get healthy and stay healthy without medication.

How much time does a typical visit take?

Our office believes that healthcare should not be rushed. Your regular visit will consist of twenty minutes including time with the doctor and the use of therapies to assist in your healing.

Will I have to wait long? Does the doctor often run behind schedule?

No. It is our belief that healthcare should be punctual. We respect your time. Dr. Grant found that one of the things that bothers him most as a patient is being made to wait. As such, he put measures in place in his own practice to minimize wait times for his patients. The wait time in our office is usually well under ten minutes. On very rare occasions we may have a case that causes a greater wait but these times are rare.
