Cervical Spine and You

family health care choices

Walking along the pathways in Calgary, you see a beautiful bird in the trees ahead.  Moving your head to the right gives you a little better view. Turning your head again to the left  you see a robin making a nest.

Now what does that have to do with Chiropractic?  Well let’s talk about the function of your cervical spine.

Cervical Spine

The cervical spine consists of the upper 7 of the spine’s 24 vertebrae.  It is one of the most underappreciated and most vital parts of our body.  Why is that?  It allows our head and neck to move atop our torso, holding up our heavy heads between 14-16 hours a day.  This is no easy task.  Why?  Because our heads do not sit directly balanced on top of our spine, but rather tilted forward.  Can you imagine holding a bowling ball with an outstretched arm for that many hours?  Indeed, without our cervical muscles, our heads would topple over onto our chest.

Our cervical spine plays an important part of just about everything we do on a daily basis.  From speaking, gesturing, sitting, standing, sightseeing in our beautiful city of Calgary, and so much more.  Most of what our heads do is thanks to our cervical spine.

Protect your spine

Due to the importance of your cervical spine, any injuries to this area are indeed serious, in fact possibly life threatening.  Even everyday headaches can often involve the cervical spine.

So it is truly wonderful that our South Calgary Chiropractors have worked hard to understand and care for the cervical spine.

Your adjustment will be tailored to meet your individual needs.
