Easy and Affordable ways to stay healthy

Woman walking the dog

If you are like most of us, our lives are very busy.  No matter where you live in Calgary, often our kids, family or just life itself makes it difficult to get in “exercise” on a regular basis.

There are, however some easy changes everyone can make in their lives to help you look and feel better.  Keep it simple!!  That is the key to success.

JUMP!!  When was the last time you used a skipping rope?  Did you know that skipping rope is a calorie-burner that works every muscle.  You get a full body workout that will slim and tone you quickly.  Just 5 minutes of skipping before you shower in the morning, or while you wait for your dinner to cook might be all you need.

BARK!  Bark???  Yes.  By going for a walk with your dog.  In Calgary we have so many beautiful pathways to take our canine friends for a stroll.  Studies show that just 20 minutes a day for 5 days a week helps people lose an average of 14 pounds a year.  If you don’t have a dog why not go with a friend who does.

DANCE!  Just put on the beats and move to it.  Listening to upbeat music and dancing can make exercise exciting and is a great distraction.  Why not dance as a family!!

HAVE A BALL!  Using a gym ball to sit on helps to strengthen your core muscles and improve your posture.

H2O  Make sure you hydrate.  Drinking water helps to curb your appetite and gives you more energy.  Add some fruit, lemons, oranges, or limes to give some natural flavor.  Another great way to hydrate is coconut water.  Why not grab some today and give it a try.

Zzzzzzzzzz  Yes sleep.  Research has found that lack of sleep can cause food cravings to increase.  Make sure you are getting enough.  Go to bed a little earlier.  You can always PVR your favorite show!!

Just a few simple changes in your way of life can make a big difference without costing much, or being too fancy.  Start small and before you know it you will be well on your way to looking and feeling great.

And don’t forget the value of visiting us at our South Calgary Clinic as a regular part of your health plan.
