Summer Time Travelling

It’s that time of year again. Summer has arrived in Calgary. And we all know, that can mean travel!! Where do you like to go for summer vacation? No matter what time of year it is though, travelling can be an exciting experience. It is easy to get so excited about an upcoming trip that we may forget to prioritize our health.

Here are some simple things you can do to make sure you are addressing your body’s needs.

Stretching

Whether you are travelling by plane or by car remember to stretch as much as you can. It is often possible to walk up and down the aisle of the plane if you are on a long flight. When driving, try to stop every few hours and get out and stretch. It’s also a great way to see the beauty of your surroundings!

Hydration

Drink it up.  Water is the easiest way to make sure you are fully hydrated so your body can function properly.Woman holding two large suitcases

Always remember to lift with your legs and not your back!!

Neck Support

Today there are many options for neck support while travelling. Find what works for you to keep your neck in the optimal position.

Back Support

Many vehicles have good lumbar support but if you need to add something why not try a rolled-up towel. Place it behind your lower back to give that extra support that you may not find in your seat.

Exercises

Something as simple as rolling your shoulder or ankles can help the blood to circulate, which can help when feeling cramped.

Movement is important to our bodies, whether we are at home or away.
