Custom Orthotics at
Cummings Chiropractic Family Wellness

Man walking with heel painOrthotics are custom-designed insoles or shoes that work similarly to braces for teeth. Made to fit the unique structure of your foot, custom foot orthotics and custom orthotic shoes exert gentle pressure to gradually and comfortably bring muscles and bones back into alignment. This helps correct foot imbalances, gait changes, and structural issues in the legs, pelvis and spine.

Why Do I Need Orthotics?

Your feet are the foundation of your body. Over the years, they take a beating. Whether through sports or just walking on the hard pavement, the steady impact may cause pain and structural damage. Injuries or excessive weight gain may also pose a problem.

When your feet are hurting, it changes the way you walk and stand, leading to postural problems and more. Our custom orthotics encourage your foot and leg muscles to function properly, reducing pain and discomfort. Walking becomes less painful, allowing you to be more active, and postural problems are corrected.

Don’t waste money on off-the-shelf orthotics, which are simply “modified insoles” and may often worsen or create lasting conditions that impact your lifestyle.

Benefits of Orthotics

Foot problems don’t stay in the foot; without care they become ankle problems, knee problems, hip problems, etc. Everything in the body is connected; an issue in one area will eventually cause problems somewhere else. That’s why it’s important for your chiropractor to identify the issues in your foot as early as possible.

Custom orthotics help restore the normal balance and alignment of your body by gently correcting foot issues. They reduce problems associated with pressure points, muscle strain, and abnormal forces on ankles, knees, hip and spine.

Some conditions that may be treated with orthotics include:

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Ankle joint instability
  • Bunions
  • Calluses
  • Fallen arches (over-pronation)
  • Foot and calf cramps
  • Hammer toes
  • Heel spurs
  • High arches (supination)
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Low back pain
  • Ball of the foot pain
  • Nerve entrapment
  • Neuroma
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Patellar misalignment
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sacroiliac joint pain
  • Sciatica
  • Shin splints
  • Tendonitis

Over time, you should begin to feel relief from the consistent pain. Correcting your foot biomechanics allows you to walk, run, jump, and move freely, without pain or dysfunction.

Our chiropractor does a full assessment of your foot, toes, and ankles to determine where the problem lies. Using state-of-the-art casting and computerized gait scan technology, an impression is taken of your foot and sent to the lab for production by certified technicians.

Having in-depth knowledge of biomechanics plays an essential role in chiropractic care, and in assessment of the foot for issues which might require orthotics. Only chiropractors have the training and skill to accurately realign bones in the foot and ankle, which makes a difference in the benefit you receive from your orthotic.

While many plans do cover some or all of the costs associated with your orthotics, it’s always a good idea to check with your provider prior to starting the process to avoid any surprises.

Our standard fee is $495 (no GST added) for custom orthotics. Custom shoe pricing varies depending on the make and model of the shoe.
